Rhinoplasty Considerations in Voice Professionals
Almost all types of surgical procedures, have so some degrees of post operative complications. If such surgeries are done in an emergency situations and not in an elective settings, side effects versus their benefits are accepted. But in an elective situations, where there are not an urgent medical reasononig for such operation, side effects must be discussed in more details .
Voice professsionals who their job is relied upon a better usage of voice quality, need to take a second thought on what risks might be implemented after operation done on their nose. Nose, not only being considered as an airway conduit but also cosidered as an organ of creating a better voice quality through it`s resonatory propeties. As one aims to speak, such thought is primarily messaged toward the central nervous system. In it`s way back to the target organs of speech production, creates the final proper voicing in different organs of speech.
Voice is produced in organs of speech by exhaling air from lungs, trigerring vocal cords, directed furtherly to the resonatory orophaynx and nasophrynx .Such voice is finally emitted out as an acceptable sound by the proper actions of articulatory organs of maxillofacial neuroanatomical zones. Any types of surgical or non-surgical traumas through these pathways, have a direct effect on the quality of vioce utterance. Occuring surgical manipulations within the nasal cavities, may result disturbances in voice qualities as hyponasality( nose stoppage model); hypernasality(nose escape model) or a mixt types of these .The natural healing processes ,may also have some degrees of neuroanatomical derangements furtherly.
Proper surgical consultations along with a complete history and phsical examinations are highly recommended.Specific clinical with other necessary paraclinical tests are also carefully considered. Functional and non- functional reasonings behind such surgical decision, need to be dicussed in care and make sure the client as a voice professional has taken all the points clearly with no ambiguities.
